Description
EscitalopramistheS-enantiomerofracemiccitalopram;likecitalopram,thiscompoundisanSSRIthatexhibitsantidepressantandanxiolyticqualitiesandisalsoeffectiveintreatingOCD.EscitalopraminhibitstheSEROtonintransporter(SERT),preventingreuptakeofserotonin.Escitaloprammayhaveotherpotentialuses,asitdecreasedweightinastudyofobesesubjectswithbingeeatingdisorderanddisplayedanti-inflammatoryactivitythroughinhibitionofNOandTNF-αproduction.ThiscompoundisassociatedwithprolongationofthecardiacQTintervalandmayinhibitosteoblastandosteoclastformationaswell.
