Description
Fingolimodisaninhibitorofsphingosine1-phosphatereceptorsthatisusedclinicallyasatreatmentforautoimmunediseasessuchasmultiplesclerosis;thiscompoundpreventsmovementofautoreactivelymphocytesfromthelymphnodesintocirculation.Fingolimodexhibitsimmunosuppressive,neuroprotective,andanticancerchemotherapeuticbenefits.InTregcells,fingolimodincreaseslevelsofTGF-β1andFoxp3.IninvitroandinvivomodelsofAlzheimer’sdisease,thiscompounddecreasesproductionofamyloid-β(Aβ)proteins.Additionally,fingolimodinhibitsexpressionofsphingosinekinase2andincreasescelldeathinneuroblastomacells.Fingolimodinhibitsgrowthofcancerousxenograftsinvivoaswell.
