Description
NAPisanoctapeptidederivedfromactivity-dependentneuroprotectiveprotein(ADNP);itexhibitsneuroprotective,antioxidative,cognitionenhancing,anti-aging,andantipsychoticactivities.NAPincreaseslevelsofBcl-2andactivatesMAPK/ERKsignalinginretinalcellsofdiabeticmice,preventingretinalapoptosis.NAPalsoincreasesexpressionofNrf2,hemeoxygenase-1(HO-1),glutathionetransferase,andsuperoxidedismutase1(SOD1)invivo,protectingagainstoxidativestressandimprovingmemoryperformanceintherADIalarmmaze.NAPdecreasesphosphorylationoftauproteininanimalmodelsofamyotrophiclateralsclerosis(ALS),protectingspinalcordmotorneuronsandincreasinglifespan.NAPshowssomeclinicalbenefitinthetreatmentofneurodegenerativediseasessuchasALSandprogressivesupranuclearpalsy(PSP).Additionally,thispeptidealsoinhibitscognitivedysfunctioninanimalmodelsofschizophrenia.
