Description
HomoharringtonineisanalkaloidfoundinCephalotaxusthatbindstheAsiteofthe60Sribosomalsubunit,preventingaminoacyl-tRNAbinding,inhibitingproteintranslation,andinducingcelldeath;itexhibitsanticancerchemotherapeuticandimmunosuppressiveactivities.Homoharringtonineisclinicallyusedtotreatchronicmyelogenousleukemia(CML)andiscurrentlyinclinicaltrialsasapotentialtreatmentforacutemyelogenousleukemia(AML)andmyelodysplasticsyndrome.Inclinicalsubjects,homoharringtoninedecreasesthenumberofCD34+,CD117+cells.
