Description
Iberinisanisothiocyanate(ITC)andsulforaphanehomologthatexhibitsantioxidativeandanticancerchemotherapeuticactivity.LikeotherITCs,iberinmaydisplaychemopreventivepotentialbyinducingphaseIIenzymes.Invitro,iberininducesNrf2nucleartranslocationandincreaseslevelsofhemeoxygenase-1andglutamylcysteinesynthetase,bothpotentiallyrelatedtoalterationsinERKsignaling.Iberinalsoincreasesexpressionofantioxidativeenzymesthioredoxinreductase1andglutathioneperoxidase2incellularmodels.Incancercells,iberininducesp21expression,decreasesexpressionofcyclin-dependentkinases(CDKs)2,4,and6,andincreasescaspaseactivity,resultinginapoptosis.
