Description
Kahweolisaditerpenefoundincoffeebeansthatexhibitsneuromodulatory,anti-osteoporotic,anti-resorptive,anti-inflammatory,antioxidative,anti-angiogenic,anticancer,andchemopreventiveactivities.Likeothercoffeecompounds,kahweolmayalsodisplayhyperlipidemicproperties.Invitro,kahweolinhibitsRANKL-inducedosteoclastgenerationandboneresorbingactivity.Inothercellularandanimalmodels,kahweolinhibitscellproliferation,migration,invasion,andtubeformation,andsuppressesexpressionofMCP-1andCOX-2.Additionally,kahweolactivatesNrf2.Inoralsquamouscellcarcinomacells,thiscompoundinducesG1phasecellcyclearrestandapoptosisanddownregulatesexpressionofSp1.Invitro,kahweolinhibitsaflatoxinB1-inducedDNAadductformationandincreaseslevelsofglutathione-S-transferase.ThiscompoundalsoinhibitsH2O2-inducedDNAdamageandoxidativestressanddecreasessuperoxideanionformationinvitro.
