Description
MemantineisaninhibitorofNMDAreceptorsthatexhibitsneuroprotectiveandcognitionenhancingactivitiesandisclinicallyusedtotreatAlzheimer’sdisease,dementia,andParkinson’sdisease.Memantinealsoinhibits5-HT3receptorsandα7nicotinicacetylcholinereceptors(nAChRs)andactivatesD2receptors.Memantineimprovesspatiallearningandmemoryimpairmentsinvariousanimalmodelsandclinicalsettings.Additionally,memantinestimulatesdendriticspinematurationandsynapseformationinvivo.
