Irinotecanisananalogofcamptothecinthatisusedclinicallytotreatcolonandovariancancers,amongothers.Irinotecanexhibitsanticancerchemotherapeutic,anti-angiogenic,andimmunosuppressiveactivities.IrinotecaninhibitsDNAtopoisomeraseIandsensitizestumorstotheeffectsofrADIation.Ingliomamodels,irinotecandecreasesthenumberoftumorvesselsanddecreasesexpressionofVEGFandHIF-1α,inhibitingtumorgrowth.Irinotecanalsomoderatesinhibitionofdendriticcelldifferentiationandmayproducecholinergicsideeffects,suggestingpotentialinhibitionofacetylcholinesterase(AChE)aswell.
